I'm going to review a few albums over the next few weeks which have been COMPLETELY looked over. These albums are EASILY the best of 2012 and let's start off with Brother Ali's Mourning in America!
Brother Ali has been known across the underground scene with his ability to spit stories. His lyrical capacity has never been up for discussion, because frankly this dude kills it. The stories Brother Ali spits are so true and inspiring, you can't help but appreciate his music. Born with Albinism and considered legally blind, the homey lets everyone knows he is a man of no race for the concept of racial identity is made up - a strong testament of his inspirational mind set.
Where do I start with this album? This album is the definition of "Feel Good" music. Stalley calls in "Intelligent Trunk Music". On the eve of the upcoming presidential election, Brother Ali decided to compose music to completely represent the current state of the United States, instead of shouting from the soapbox. In the manner of how he presented himself on this album, you feel as if you're being lectured by one of the forefathers of the country. The poetic nature of his rhyming, over immaculately produced music, makes you sit back and absorb the knowledge and truth Brother Ali is trying to portray. Even though his rhymes are filled with extremely clever word play, he makes it a point that the overall message doesn't get misconstrued or ignored. His voice is perfectly clear and his pronunciation is on point, while providing a flow that is so smooth, soothing and inspiring all at the same damn time.
